This is part 3 of a 3 part series on all-inclusive properties I stayed at while in the Dominican Republic.  Now Onyx is not far from the airport, about 20 minutes North West of it, and in an area of Punta Cana called Playa Uvero Alto.  I really liked this property.  The rooms seemed new.  The property was absolutely beautiful with multiple pools, swim up bars and “Private Islands” which are private sections of the Preferred pool area that you can rent out for small groups.  The beach was beautiful, but there was a lot of seaweed.  They actually had front loaders out there hauling it away, but kudos to the staff for getting after it.

The internet connection in the rooms here was solid.  I actually made a presentation for a work event while there in the hotel room and some of the attendees said the voice quality was better than some of the people who called in with cell phones.  I did have some issues while walking the property with the Internet connection, but took that as a sign it was time to put down the damn phone, go to the bar and enjoy being in a tropical location.  Which is, I am happy to report, exactly what I did.

If you go to this property make sure to get a Preferred room.  This will give you access to the adults only property “Breathless” next door.  They have a disco, foam pool parties, and in general a fun party atmosphere.  Drawback to this is that some of these parties go late and there is no way the rooms are quiet because they are in the common areas.  Some of you are like me and still think they are 24 when they go out to party, but somewhere around 10:30 your body reminds you that is not your real age and you are up past your bedtime.  The Preferred room allows you to go over to the loud party property, then head back to the quiet tranquil property when you are ready to crash.

The rooms are very nice and the views are incredible pretty much wherever you are.  I lot of people don’t realize this but in the DR there is a building code that you cannot build something taller than the tallest palm tree.  For the most part this is followed.  In other places, well they must have cut down some pretty tall palm tree’s.  My room had a bottle of rum in it and fully stocked fridge.  It also had a jacuzzi on the balcony.  Imagine this view from a jacuzzi on your balcony, which is where I took this picture.  I have had worse.

For the souvenir hunters there is a decent shopping center in between the two properties.  Go see Puchi, he is not too pushy.  You can actually buy art work there and on most days the artist is sitting out front.  He will sign the painting and you can even get your picture with him.  Pretty cool.

I would definitely recommend this property.  Reasonably priced with incredible views.  For more pictures of the property check out this link Now Onyx.  For more information or help planning your trip to Punta Cana feel free to reach out to me at jfrazier@cruiseshipcenters.com.

  1. What an awesome job of allowing someone to visualize and get comfortable with the resort environment. Great skill.
